PVC soffit baffles
Are PVC pipes considered an acceptable material for a soffit baffle. I would say no, but I am asking.
And since I am asking inspection questions, a speaker recessed in the common wall would be a breech in the fire protection correct?
And since I have you here what is with the 2 PVC terminations filled with gravel. I typically see clean outs with pvc caps.
Thanks for your time.

Renovation Realities
I was asked to look at an exterior wall which had no brick ties or moisture barrier, the room was an add on that caught on fire and the last couple did the work themselves. The contractor asked me what needs to be done, so I told him to take the brick down and do it right, he didn't like that answer and sought another opinion. Spray in foam insulation was recommended, it was likened to "great stuff" what is used for sealing pipe penetrations, along sill plates, or were ever you want to stop air infiltration. I don't like that recommendation but if anyone has expirienced this type of remedy and has worked, let me know, also looking for diagrams that can backup my claim of why it can be a bad idea.

Terra cotta foundation blocks
Hello all
I have a couple of questions about terra cotta foundation blocks.
1. What are the problems that are associated with this type of system?
2. Does it have to be mortared or can it be stacked.
The house is vintage 1947. I don't have any pictures but its size is approx. 6x8x12 inches.
I know one manufacture states that it should not be used in seismic areas.
Thanks for your help Mark N.

Texas lawsuit update
According to a memo (see attached pdf file) from the mediator to the Harris County District Court the Fox Inspection Group vs- Maze inspection lawsuit apparently has been settled through mediation. Details of the settlement have not yet been filed with the court as of 5/20/10. Ill post that information if & when it is available. I assume the court has to agree to or approve of the mediation settlement but I suspect thats a formality.
For more details of the lawsuit see this thread from earlier.

Mold Inspection??
I had a client that brought 2 ProLab Mold Inspection kits to his home inspection I did this morning!! He asked me where the best place was to set these up. I explained to him that he got duped into a scam and he should return them for a refund. After I explained to him that mold will grow anywhere you set them up and a mold inspector will be referred to you for further testing, he was grateful that he wasn't taken for a ride. Has anyone else ever had this happen to them??
