Safety glazing next to a door...one more time

Thu, 07/29/2010 - 21:59
Would this window require safety glazing? I can't seem to grasp what "within a 24-inch (610 mm) arc of the door in a closed position" looks like. (Anybody got an illustration?)

"Glazing, in an individual fixed or operable panel adjacent to a door where the nearest vertical edge is within a 24-inch (610 mm) arc of the door in a closed position and whose bottom edge is less than 60 inches (1524 mm) above the floor or walking surface."

Florida Insurance Inspectors Chapter

Thu, 07/29/2010 - 21:01
I just started an Inachi Chapter "Florida Insurance Inspectors" if anyone is interested, I will set-up a meeting. We can go over the wind mit for those that want to. I will even ask Bill York to speak. Maybe we can bring some contractors and underwriters to throw eggs at.

Weep holes drilled after the wall is complete?

Thu, 07/29/2010 - 20:59
Anyone ever heard of that? I swear that's what I think happened, even though the builder's rep. denied it (new construction). I was there before the walls were pressure washed, before landscaping.

Note the chipped bricks and the brick dust on the soil beneath the weep holes.

What would you say about the potential ramifications and what would be your recommendation?

Zircon MT 6

The Zircon MT 6 seems to be the standard for finding nail spacing on a Wind Mit report. Where is the best place to buy one?

Old Roof Structure

Thu, 07/29/2010 - 16:16
Hey Guys-

This was on a saltbox style house...not sure on the age. 2x4's on the short side then on the long side the top half was 2x4s then switched over to 2x6s on bottom half. It seems to me that the rafters are mostly supported at the ridge by the 2x8 header beam. Overall span about 24' with one support in the middle. The 2x8 header doubled up in the middle but it's only 1-2x8 on each half.

It seems all a little jimmy-rigged to me but I'd appreciate any advice on what exactly is defective...considering its an old house. Thanks.

Was wondering what will be the best program/software to use for inspection forms/inspections in Florida or in general? Can anyone suggest a good program? I would greatly appreciate the help.

Thanks.

Fire Safety Inspection Survey

Thu, 07/29/2010 - 10:36
I found this document while doing some research.

I thought it could be edited and used by home inspectors:
  • some information could be incorporated into an inspection procedure; and
  • it could be tweeked in order to be left behind as a marketing piece to the seller (property owner).

Service size

Thu, 07/29/2010 - 06:45
House built in '54. Is this a 60 amp service?? I'm guessing it is. The system was a mess, however, I would like to confirm if this indeed is a 60 amp service. Thanks in advance.

Any issues with this low-sloped roof?

Wed, 07/28/2010 - 18:54
I didn't measure the pitch. What would you estimate it to be? What do you think about shingles on a low-sloped roof such as this?
